Our mission

The “Fran Galović” Public Library is the cultural, information source and multi media focal point of the Town of Koprivnica, as well as the Koprivnica-Križevci County. Its aim is to enable access to knowledge, information and cultural events necessary for educational, study and scientific pursuits, life-long learning, accessing needed information and entertainment purposes.
„Fran Galović” Library Koprivnica is a poly-functional meeting spot of Koprivnica and its county – in culture, information, education and multimedia. It’s the social and communication center, too. The Library provides an equal approach to everyone in search of knowledge, sources, information and culture. It helps in individual, professional and/or scientific work, lifelong learning, information, decision-making and leisure.


To perform the mission tasks in such a manner so that the Library is recognised for its achievements locally, at national level and internationally as one of the leading public libraries in Croatia, both in its variety of library services on offer to the public, especially for those members of the community with special needs. One of the key tasks being to aid their integration into the activities of the local community and society in general.
To contribute to local community in life improvement, with focus on 1) promoting reading and literacy from traditional and hi-tech media; 2) lifelong learning of children, the young and the adults 3) use of hi-tech information-communication technology; 4) social inclusion of vulnerable groups in society; and 5) creation of adequate spatial and professional conditions for socially and communication-wise multi layered library of the 21st century.


The key tasks are closely connected to supplying information, education, learning, culture and entertainment as core services and activities of the Library.

23 employees, of whom 16 are certified library staff.

“Pavao Markovac” Prize by Croatian Workers' Union for promotion of books and reading among workers in 1979 (awarded in 1980)

Town of Koprivnica Plaque for extraordinary achievements in culture and promotion of books, reading and literacy (2006)

Koprivnica-Križevci County Recognition for contributions and achievements in culture and education (2009)

Dr. Ljerka Markić Čučuković Fund Award for special contributions to librarianship for the year 2009 (specialized education of librarians for services to the blind and visually impaired); participation in international programs (2010)

EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) Innovation Award for „Jump in the train for a better world“ project of support to the Roma community by using ICT (2013.)

Croatian Library Association „Library of the Year Award“ for our innovative, creative and high quality work (2013)

„Our Children Society“ and Croatian Society for Preventive and Social Pediatrics sponsored by UNICEF Office for Croatia Achievements award for the best program in 2013 - „Mini library at Pediatrics clinics”

The 2014 American Library Association (ALA) Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library Projects for “In-house library training program supporting Roma people – the power of networking in local community” project (2014.)
